Registries offering reliable data are becoming increasingly important in the health field, and the number of registries – and volume of data held – is steadily rising. In an effort to ensure their quality, the SAMS joined forces with the Swiss National Association for Quality Development in Hospitals and Clinics (ANQ), the Swiss Medical Association (FMH), the Swiss Hospital Association (H+) and University Medicine Switzerland to publish in 2016 recommendations for the development and operation of health-related registries. These recommendations were revised in 2019.
At the request of the partner institutions, the SAMS appointed a group of ten experts to examine ten Swiss registries in the light of the recommendations which were first published in 2016. Their analysis showed that the recommendations for registry management were sound, and that they represent a valuable tool for improving quality – both for registry operators and for decision‑makers.
On the basis of the expert group’s conclusions, the partner institutions revised the recommendations with regard to the minimum standards for quality assurance and data use. In addition, several criteria included in the checklist were amended and their weighting optimised. The revised recommendations and the checklist are available in English, French, German and Italian.
Recommendations for the development and operation of health-related registries (2019)
